In times of war, conflict and social upheaval, stories of people being forced into exile abound, people obliged to leave their homes and belongings and settle in new surroundings, facing insecurity and an unsure future. And yet, even under such troubled conditions, people strive to cope with the daily challenges and achieve a certain amount of normality.
The video dialogue “Tales of New Beginnings” will show the work of two young Syrian artists: Two reflections of life in surreal circumstances. Free from any sugarcoating, they offer us a poetic reflection on that particular human capacity for adaptation and endurance.
About the artists:
Randa Maddah was born in 1983 in Majdal Shams, in the occupied Golan. She studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Damascus and has participated in exhibitions in Syria and abroad. Sie is a founding member of the Fateh al-Mouddares Center in the Golan, a center fro art and culture that organizes artistic activities for children and support the artistic life in the Golan.

La ville amoureuse (2013)
A poetic video, punctuated by quotes from Georges Perecs text „L’homme qui dort“ (The man who sleeps) that leads us into a nostalgic and romantic ballad.
The video dialogue “Tales of New Beginnings” takes place in the frame of the FORUM for new arab art.
